Andrew Scheer Elected Speaker

Here’s a link to a CBC report on Regina Qu’Appelle Conservative MP Andrew Scheer (pictured) being elected Speaker in the House of Commons. Eight candidates were in the running, and MPs used some sort of bizarro voting procedure where, after each round of balloting, the candidate with the lowest vote total was dropped from the ballot.

I’m not really sure why they deviated from first-past-the-post which, as everyone knows, is the best way to conduct a vote and elect people to represent us in government. But for some reason they did, and now Canada has its youngest Speaker in history.

  1. As much as I do not support the Conservative government, I have interacted with Andrew Sheer a few times, namely bartending at functions, and he has always been extremely friendly, polite and, most importantly, a good tipper. If we have to have a conservative speaker, I am glad it is Sheer.

  2. A runoff election. Crazy. I wonder what the House of Commons would look like if IT were elected that way.

  3. Brutal. Guy does nothing as an adult and earns $232k/yr with a butler and vacation home. Brutal.

  4. DONT KNOW HIM WELL BUT HE IS PROBABLY THE NICEST CONSERVATIVE IN EXISTENCE NOW OR HISTORICALLY HE JUST HAS ONE SET BACK HES NOT SMART ENOUGH TOO CHANGE POLITICAL PARTYS. AND FOR COMPARISION PURPOSES WHO DO WE PICK FROM EX MP JOHN GORMELY HA OR BERNAEY OR ELMER MCKAY OR GRANT DEVINE AND GANG OR TORRIE SUPPORTERS LIKE CONRAD BLACK OR PETER POCKINGTON ??
