My, how that reminds me: many, many decades ago, Winnipeg police officers, most of whom walked beats, were issued buffalo coats, the genuine article, for protection from the city’s celebrated cold. Decades later, when patrol cars were the norm, the coats were deemed to be of no further use (and even as hampering an officer’s movements), and so they were sold off, relatively cheaply, because university students took to them like crazy. They were apparently super-warm, but they were also heavy, so that to walk any distance in them was to get a helluva workout.
