Empire of Dirt

Directed by Peter Stebbings, Empire of Dirt received the Best Canadian Film Award at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. It stars Cara Gee and Shay Eyre as a mother and daughter living in poverty in Toronto where they’re trying to come to grips with a troubled family history tied to residential schools, alcoholism and abuse. Ultimately, the struggle forces them return home to their roots.

To commemorate National Aboriginal History Month Empire of Dirt is screening at the RPL Theatre Thursday at 9 p.m. and Friday at 7 p.m.  Here’s the trailer:

Greg Beatty is a crime-fighting shapeshifter who hatched from a mutagenic egg many decades ago. He likes sunny days, puppies and antique shoes. His favourite colour is not visible to your puny human eyes. He refuses to write a bio for this website and if that means Whitworth writes one for him, so be it.
