Oh, Yeah? Which School Did She Attend? Winston Knoll? Sheldon Williams? The World Wonders … Okay, Maybe Only Me

The Canadian networks announced their new shows for the fall-winter programming season today, and one of the shows announced — probably for MTV Canada — has the working title Highland Gardens (apparently a spin-off of Degrassi: The Next Generation). (Bellmedia) The show is an ensemble piece about a group of could-be’s and could have been’s trying to make it in Hollywood. Think of CTV’s late, lamented Robson Arms, except with less idiosyncratic and better-looking people.

One of the characters, Chelan Simmons, (IMDB) plays “Alicia, a sensitive, aspiring dancer from Regina who will do whatever it takes to make ends meet,” according to the press release. Oh well. I’ll believe that back story when her character talks about going out with a Roughrider and having to leave town with little more than she could carry because of a very bad experience with a hillbilly roadie at the Craven Valley Jamboree … There, I’ve given them some story ideas. Now, how do I get these guys to pay me …

  1. Once again, Regina is a place to be from.

Wonder if the “sensitive, aspiring” dancer will look more like she should be dancing with a pole, not ballet shoes. Quick tip: check out the torso. Dancers are usually svelte. ‘Actresses’ on MTV shows are usually the opposite.

  2. Doesn’t Vanda know all the secrets of Canadian Televison? I’ll bet she could fill us in on “Alicia’s” inevitably torrid and dramatic Regina backstory…

  3. (PS — speaking of Vanda — Vanda: how does one go about obtaining a copy of River?)
