Pick of the Day: Big John Bates & the Voodoo Dollz

Kind of like Ultimate Fighting, except instead of experts in mixed martial arts and general thuggery wailing on each other, you have two bands with a reputation for raunchy stage shows and raucous music   going toe to toe.

It all goes down at the Gaslight Saloon tonight. I posted on one of the participants, White Cowbell Okalahoma, on Oct. 1 when they were in town to play at O’Hanlon’s Pub. Here’s a link.

The other headliner is Big John Bates & the Voodoo Dollz (pictured). With their mix of rock-a-billy and burlesque, this band will definitely give WCO all they can handle as they square off in this cross-Canada mini-Battle of the Bands. Here’s video of BJBVD performing “Kitten With a Whip”.

  1. Also on tonight at O’Hanlon’s Pub, local punk rockers Royal Red Brigade are playing an early show with Hennessey and Terrorist.
