I’m pretty clear on the origins of the headliner’s name. Originally, this Mississauga-based band were called Pezz. But apparently there was an American band with the same name. To avoid confusion, and a possible legal battle, the Canucks elected to change their name to Billy Talent. It was a homage of sorts to Hard Core Logo – the Canadian rock novel by Michael Turner that Bruce McDonald later made into a classic movie, and which featured a guitarist named “Billy Tallent”.

As for the co-headliners for this gig at Brandt Centre tonight, I’m still not sure. It’s pronounced Alexis-On-Fire, isn’t it? Not Alex-Is-On-Fire? Regardless, they’re from Ontario too. St. Catherines, to be exact. With Against Me! and Cancer Bats on the same bill, this should be a pretty rockin’ show. To get you in the mood, here’s video of Alexisonfire doing their song “Young Cardinals” off their 2009 CD Old Crows/Young Cardinals. (YouTube)

And don’t forget, the Dudes are at the Exchange. They’re a Calgary-based indie rock band that’s drawn comparisons to Modest Mouse. As promised in our print edition, here’s video of them performing their song “Do the Right Thing” off their CD Brain Heart Guitar. (YouTube)
