Pick of the Day: Canada Day

I’m not sure, does Canada still exist — as an independent country, that is, as opposed to a protectorate of the United States with a vast storehouse of natural resources that our corporate overlords are chomping at the bit to sell to an insatiable American market?

Which is fine, if that’s the future Canadians want. But if we’re going to surrender our sovereignty like that we should probably dispense with stuff like Canada Day. We can just celebrate with our American cousins on their national day — July 4.  It’s a way better par-tay anyway.

But for die-hards out there, there are Canada Day celebrations happening today. In Regina, most of the action will be centred in Wascana Centre. For more info visit www.reginacanadaday.ca

  1. Someone tell that cabinet minister pictured to haul his taxpayer-funded butt back to work.

  2. The best place to be is the Lieutenant-Governor’s Garden Party. No beer gardens or Ronald McDonald. Fewer people, lots of fun free stuff for kids to do that doesn’t have a giant lineup, a cricket match that everyone is welcome to join, and the Regina Riot band…. their old-timey music is good-time music. Beats the crap out of Chilliwack and Men Without Shame. Plus there’s a fly-by from the Moose Jaw Air Force base that comes pretty close to ground. It’s more of a chill out and relax kind of atmosphere than the zaniness of the Park.
