Marc courtemancheTonight at the Dunlop Art Gallery there’s an opening reception for this exhibition by Tammi Campbell and Mark Courtemanche. The show’s title is derived from the old adage “fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me”. That’s because both artists use the technique of tromp l’oeil which involves creating the illusion of reality.

In Campbell’s case, she works in the two-dimensional medium of painting. Courtemanche, conversely, uses the three-dimensional medium of ceramic sculpture. That’s one of his works on display above. From a distance, it looks like an ordinary wooden stool. But it’s actually made of clay. To further extend the illusion, he uses traditional woodworking techniques to assemble his sculptures.

The opening reception for Fool Me Twice, which includes artist talks, is at 6 p.m. tonight. The exhibition runs until Jan. 19. You can find more information here.
