Pick of the Day: Rational Animals

“Rational Animals” works for me as a band name. It might strike some as incongruous, in that animals aren’t generally regarded as being able to act in a rational manner. Rather, they’re typically governed by instinct and a moderate amount of learned behaviour. There is one animal, though, that is supposed to possess the capacity for reason — although the last few decades, it seems, it’s a capacity that’s unfortunately been in increasingly short supply.

Regardless, tonight Rational Animals (a Rochester-based punk/rock/soul band) are in town to play a show at the Exchange. And as promised in my July 26 14 Days Top Six here’s video of them ripping it up at what looks to be a basement show last December:

Greg Beatty is a crime-fighting shapeshifter who hatched from a mutagenic egg many decades ago. He likes sunny days, puppies and antique shoes. His favourite colour is not visible to your puny human eyes. He refuses to write a bio for this website and if that means Whitworth writes one for him, so be it.

  1. “Rational animal” is what Aristotle referred to man. The faculty of reason gave him uniqueness in the animal kingdom.
