Pick of the Day: Regina Farmers’ Market

Now that summer seems finally to have arrived, what better way to celebrate than to head down to the local market? Next year, plans call for RFM, which has been growing by leaps and bounds over the last while, to set up on 19 block Scarth and the City Square area north of Victoria Park. For the remainder of this season, though, they’ll be in the area around City Hall on McIntyre and Smith Streets.

The market runs from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

  1. For me the Farmer’s Market doesn’t pick up steam till late summer, but with all those flooded fields in Craven and Lumsden, it’ll be interesting and possible heart-breaking to see what if any bounty arrives at FM tables this September.

  2. In the meantime there are vegetables to be had from Pusch Bros., Belle Plain Hutterite Colony, and Heliotrope, to mention just a few vendors.

  3. Only 4 hours? I’m an Afternoon person. 1:30 is early. Add buskers and kids stuff, make a day of it. A garden of homemade beers perhaps?

Mabye the Craven area will grow rice and have Cranberry fields next year.

  4. No zucchini yet, but English cucumbers for sure, and kohlrabi and collards, as well.

  5. I’ve also seen asparagus (probably done now), greenhouse tomatoes, kale, radish, green onion, herbs, spinach… to me, even though not everything is there yet, this is to best time, because it’s our first fresh food of the year!

  6. Well said, JB, and for those who like fruit wines, there’s the Living Sky Winery booth.

  7. I just got back from one of the local farm stands here with a bounty of greens (kale, lettuce, beet greens), fresh blueberries, kohlrabi, cucumber, radishes, the summer is in full-swing as far as I’m concerned!

  8. I guess I’m just a root vegetable kind of guy. I also like the peas & corn.
