Along with the Regina Folk Festival and CJTR Community Radio, we’re sponsors of this gig at the Distrikt tonight which features one Australia’s most popular musical exports The Cat Empire (pictured).

Formed in 1999, the band augments the usual guitar/drum/bass triumpherate  with instruments like trumpet, banjo, melodica and decks to create a catchy and eclectic, dance-friendly sound. Touring in support of their latest album Cinema (released last month), the Cat Empire is being backed up tonight by the Vancouver band fronted by Daniel Wesley.

Here’s the video for Daniel Wesley’s 2009 song “Pilgrimage”. And here’s Cat Empire’s video for The Car Song.

Doors are at 8 p.m., and tix for this 19 plus gig are $22.50 advance.

Also on tonight, there’s a benefit concert for Carmichael Outreach to raise funds to help 40 inner city youth go to summer camp. It’s being held at Artesian on 13th  at 7:30 p.m. Performing are Jeffrey Straker and Belle Plaine. Tix are $15. For more info call 757-2235.
