Pick Of The Day (Tomorrow Edition): Gregory Crewdson: Brief Encounters

Kind of like America’s version of acclaimed Canuck artist Jeff Wall, Crewdson assembles movie-scale crews and, with inspiration derived from the likes of Alfred Hitchcock, Edward Hopper, Diane Arbus and more, creates elaborately staged photo narratives that critique and explore small-town American life.

Shot over a ten-year period, this documentary looks at Crewdson and his work. It screens Thursday and Saturday at 9 p.m., and Friday and Sunday at 7 p.m., at the RPL Film Theatre. Here’s the trailer:

Greg Beatty is a crime-fighting shapeshifter who hatched from a mutagenic egg many decades ago. He likes sunny days, puppies and antique shoes. His favourite colour is not visible to your puny human eyes. He refuses to write a bio for this website and if that means Whitworth writes one for him, so be it.
