Pick of the Day: Yarn Bomb Workshop

This has the makings of a pretty interesting workshop. It’s on something called “yarn bombing”. It’s like graffiti in a way, but instead of spray-painting public/private property, people knit special covers which they clandestinely install on select objects scattered throughout the city.

Yeah, I think that’s a cool idea too. In the above example, a parking meter (typically made of grey metal, and symbolizing a pretty crass form of commercial exchange) has been softened somewhat with the addition of a colourfully knitted cover.

The workshop on this latest trend in Outsider urban art is being presented by the Dunlop Art Gallery and runs tomorrow night at Central Library from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Pre-register by calling Catherine at 777-6044.
