A new study out of the University of Pisa says that a painting Michelangelo did for the Sistine Chapel may have been influenced by scenes of prostitution from the bath houses of the time. The Guardian U.K. reports the Vatican’s response as pretty much “Yeah, that sounds about right.”
This news gives the sculpture seen above – which I spotted over at Bleeding Cool this morning – a whole new connotation.
