We interupt our regularly scheduled (every second Tuesday, anyway) rush to get the next issue ready to send off to the printer (Best of Regina, due out Oct. 21) to bring you this CBC story about a move by a union representing scientists in the employ of the federal government to draw attention to the Harper Conservatives’ “worrying trend away from evidence-based policy-making”. If you check the comment thread, a lot of posters point to the fundamentalist Christian roots of Harper and his inner circle as a major reason for this problem. That’s a subject that Canadian journalist Marci McDonald explored in her recent book The Armageddon Factor: Th Rise of Christian Nationalism in Canada.
