Six In The Morning: Assange Hearing, Luge, The Weather

1 OFFICIALS WERE WORRIED ABOUT VANCOUVER’S KILLER LUGE TRACK BEFORE ATHLETE’S DEATH The CBC has obtained documents.

2 JULIAN ASSANGE EXTRADITION HEARING It’s underway. A retired Swedish judge called as a witness described the Assange case “extremely peculiar.” We ran a good article on this case a while back that’s worth a look, by the way.

3 STAR BUNGLED BANNER (OR: “AT THE TWILIGHT’S LAST REAMING”) Skip ahead to 1:09. “At the twilight’s last reaming.” That’s what Christina Aguilera sang. More about  mangled  national anthems here.

Oh, and the Packers — AKA the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the NFL — won the game.

4 HUGE, KIND OF WEIRD MEDIA MERGER The liberal-leaning Huffington Post and AOL have oozed together to forge a strange corporate relationship.  Evolution is strange in the primordial soup of teh Internet.

5 MOVIE RUMOURS ARE UNRELIABLE? WHO KNEW? Actress Diane Kruger has shot down rumours she might play Phantom Zone inmate Ursa in the next Superman movie. Dark Horizons, my go-to source for movie news, basically throws up their hands and says don’t believe anything you hear about the next Superman movie until news is officially announced.

6 THE SUN SET AT SIX that was yesterday. Today, it rose  at 8:24 and tonight it will set at 6:01. Ha! We are on our way out of this dark winter of cold bleccch! Then again, it’s minus-28 right now. Blargh!

  1. #3: Ms. Aguilera must have been a classmate of the Popular Mechanics editor who perpetrated “tenant” for “tenet”…

  2. …but on the bright side, Robert Goulet should now be off the hook (he bollixed up the SSB before one of Muhammed Ali’s major boxing matches, but he was a Canadian and that was his only defence).
