Six In The Morning: Fougere For Mayor?

1 I WONDER WHAT THIS COULD POSSIBLY BE ABOUT Breaking news: Michael Fougere has announced a Tuesday morning press conference to “announce his intentions regarding the 2012 Civic Election.” The name on the media contact sheet is current RPL board chair and former Councillor Darlene Hincks-Joehnck, which is arguably some kind of an establishment endorsement and interesting if you’re a politics nerd.

2 WHO WANTS  A WAR? The United States seems to be thinking seriously about a military strike against Iran, to take place in the fall. Well, Americans always like their wars in the short term so that would probably help Barack Obama get elected. I predict Canada would be involved.  predict another Gwynne Dyer column on this. I predict Dyer will once again say this is insane.

3 NO NO NO, WE’RE SPYING ON YOU. YOU DON’T GET TO SPY ON ME Justice Minister Vic “if you disagree with me you support child molesters” Toews wants a parliamentary investigation into the release of his personal info on Twitter from an apparent House Of Commons IP address. Read more here. Frankly this seems like harassment and it’s reprehensible, and you should definitely not follow along @vikileaks30. Want even more? Even more here.

4 SASKATCHEWAN FIRST NATIONS REJECT FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ACTION PLAN The FSIN unanimously rejected the initiative, which is supported by the national Assembly Of First Nations. The complaint? Crappy consultation.

5 SAME-SEX MARRIAGE DIVORCE FOREIGN PROBLEM THING TO BE FIXED LIKE, TODAY OR SOMETHING  And you may read the story here.

6 YOU DON’T CARE, BUT I’LL SHARE IT ANYWAY: THE COLUMBUS MEDIA IS NOT PLEASED ABOUT THE LOOMING RICK NASH TRADE My favourite NHL team is dumb and broken. Sigh.

  1. I guess when I’m ready to announce that I’ll be running for a position this October, that I should throw together a press conference and press release to, eh? I’m new to this.

  2. The SUV for mayor is looking better all the time. At least the SUV purrs when it runs and does not speak in an irritating voice.

  3. Fougere’s been one-dimensionally a representative of the construction industry on city council, hasn’t he? Is he really well-rounded enough to become the mayor?

  4. “Fougere holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from St. Francis Xavier University, and a Masters of Science degree from the London School of Economics.”

Okay, maybe he is, we’ll have to see. I bet there’s a good behind-the-scenes story about how the impatient Fougere camp pressured Pat to leave. Man, Pat already feels like yesterday’s man.

  5. Vic Toews is the Minister of Public Safety, not Justice. Honest to christ, if you want to make a point at least get basic, google worthy facts, straight. It makes you look like idiots.

  6. globe & mail…it’s First Nation and First Nation’s! note capital letters otherwise known as uppercase . .

  7. BTW, what’s with your brown-nosing poll? Are you trying to mold PDog-reader opinion in favour of Pat Fiacco, just like every other media org in this city? I thought you were different? Why no dissenting opinion answer on the poll?
