Six In The Morning: Metro Sure Sucks

1 CUTTING CLASS The University of Regina considers shutting down nine programs. Saskaboom woo!

2 I’M CONFIDENT THE CONSERVATIVES WILL DO THIS RIGHT The party that scoffs at hunger-striking First Nations leaders has an aboriginal education agenda. This oughta be good.

3 SPEAKING OF RIDICULING HUNGER STRIKES Here’s Conservative senator Patrick Brazeau on Theresa Spence’s hunger strike: “I personally don’t believe in Canada, in 2012, that is the way to go and I don’t really believe it sets a good example for young Aboriginal youth.” Brazeau is personally setting an example today by being charged with assault and sexual assault.

4 NOT THE BEST DAY FOR DRIVING Cars are rolling over and whatnot.

5 BAIRD MEETS SECRETARY OF STATE MUNSTER Talkin’ bout pipelines because moneymoneymoney >future. Also, sorry for the John Kerry-Herman Munster comparison. It’s unfair to Herman Munster. Herman Munster has charisma.

6 UNWELL PERSON VANDALIZES GREAT PAINTING Our thoughts and best wishes go to Eugene Delacroix’s “Liberty Leading The People”.

WHY DO WE NEED PRAIRIE DOG? This is why we need Prairie Dog:

Barrrf. “Saskatchewan is totes  sexy now!” says fluff newspaper that’s just walked into the party. What a meretricious embarrassment. And some boom. That’s why we have a housing crisis, a film industry crisis, massive property tax hikes to pay for stadiums and, hey,  didn’t I already link to something about university cuts? Why I believe I did.

Prairie Dog editor Stephen Whitworth will never, ever pass up a chance to make a Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo pun.

  1. To be fair, Jeff Mackey is straight out of j-school, has been in Regina less than a year, and writes somewhere between 8 and 10 articles a week. Can you really expect him to produce content with depth or an understanding of Saskatchewan under those constraints?

  2. I find the Metro articles surprisingly decent, for what it is, but hate that it’s shoved in me face my freezing cold newcomers on every downtown street corner from 7am till mid-afternoon.

  3. #1 Maybe Jeff should have read, “Who has seen the wind”, before/while he moved here. but then again you don’t mention if he is from somewhere other than SK.

    #2 Yer right. letter n.

  4. Progressive idea to promote Brazeau to the Senate due to his ethnic background and not on merit. Bad move by Harper but lets face it if he was a Liberal senator story would not have been over reported

  5. I heard rumours that Metro was closing shop and leaving town. Can anyone confirm? Sweet Jesus I hope the rumours are true.

  6. 3) Senator Brazeau picked a really bad time to screw up his Senator Career with Jail and assault charges.
    4) What’s with Regina Drivers trying to do rollover stunts in the winter?

Pretty pathetic of Prairie Dog to take a shot at Metro like that. I liked how they were listing positives about this province and past successes. We need more of this to change other people’s perception of this province. Prairie Dog frequently acts so negative and hostile. Sometimes you guys have some positive things, but not enough.
I did find the pic of a Sask. Born Olympic medalist standing in front of a car and open field could have been better done.

  7. @8: Were you around when Verb first came out? From the PD overreaction, you’d have thought the world was coming to an end.

  8. @9) If you are referring to these Verb overreactions Barb, then I missed them as I wasn’t a frequent flyer here until recently. Overreactions indeed.

I get it that both Planet S and PD are independents and have a reputation for being very vocal, yet I don’t see/read other similar competitors like the Metro or the Verb taking shots directly back at these 2. Perhaps it’s time for the PD to act a little more professional.
