The New Globe Season

Last night, Regina’s Globe Theatre announced their 2010/2011 season’s line-up.

The press release says the season “[covers] themes of life and death, birth and rebirth, friendship and love, betrayal and forgiveness.” In other words, a pretty wide swath.

Main Stage productions: Metamorphoses, Honk! A Musical Tale Of The Ugly Duckling, Having Hope At Home, Shakespeare’s Will, Copenhagen, and W.O. Mitchell’s Jake And The Kid.

Shumiatcher Sandbox Series productions: Invisible Atom, A Watched Pot Never Boyles, Globe Young Company, Honey On Wallpaper, Fusion Project, and Blink Blink Blink.

  1. The computer gods have not smiled on me this week. I’m working on someone else’s computer at the office and I’m not really sure how to log on to the blog without my password, which on my machine popped up automatically when I entered the first letter of my user name. I can’t be bothered dicking around with my computer to find out what my password is, and with zero prospect of things being rectified tech-wise before the weekend, I’m resorting to this method to post on the Masters golf tournament which opens tomorrow in Augusta, Georgia.

This tournament has its issues, I know. The provision about not allowing women to join Augusta National Golf Club, not cool guys. Then there’s the whole race issue (encapulated by Fuzzy Zoeller’s crack after Tiger Woods won his first Masters in 1997 about serving fried chicken and collard greens at the annual champion’s dinner the next year. But it’s still a great tournament. After six months of dingy winter in these parts, the golf course is definitely a treat to visually inhabit. And throughout the tournament’s 70 or so year history, it’s produced a lot of drama.

This year, of course, most of the drama’s being generated off the course, what with this being Tiger Woods’ return to the PGA Tour after the whole infidelity thing.

Not having played a competitive round of golf since November, it’s hard to see how Woods will be able to contend with other golfers who are rounding into mid-season form.

I don’t mean to dismiss the significance of his betrayal of his wife Elin and their children, but there is a part of me, I must admit, that would like to see Woods shove it up the ass of corporate America by returning to his position of dominance on the PGA Tour after being abandoned by numerous sponsors after the scandal broke.

They helped corrupt him, after all.
