In addition to Jack Kevorkian, another celebrity passed away today — actor James Arness. While Arness, whose younger brother (and fellow thespian) Peter Graves passed away last year, is best-known for his role as Marshall Matt Dillon in the long-running ’60s TV show Gunsmoke, I think the performance that truly defined him as an actor was his masterful turn as the titular character in Howard Hawks’ 1951 Sci-Fi flick Thing From Another World.
You only get a brief glimpse of him in the trailer, but as the accompanying still from the movie attests, Arness was truly menacing.
