Do you want to hear something truly depressing? Next week, Pacific Rim and Grown Ups 2 will battle for box office supremacy. Odds are in Adam Sandler’s favor. By a lot.

One of the very few films not featuring superheroes and without a number on the title, Pacific Rim pits massive robots against hellacious alien creatures for the survival of mankind (how is that for stakes?) The sci-fi extravaganza is directed by Guillermo del Toro, a filmmaker known for his unchecked imagination (Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy), and by all accounts one of the best genre directors in the business.

No matter. Few people are even aware of the existence of Pacific Rim (up to today the film was tracking very poorly) and studios expect the movie to underperform. Given that conservative estimations place the budget in the $250 million range, the flick has a steep hill to climb in order to at least make the money back. This doesn’t bode well for future Del Toro projects.

A final trailer for Pacific Rim has been unveiled, this time focusing on the human components of the movie. Here is hoping kaijus and robots can squash Sandler and friends.
