Pick Of The Day: By Divine Right

Fronted by Jose Miguel Contreras, this Toronto-based rock band has been around since 1989. Over the years, a whole pile of musicians have played in the group. I can’t recall the exact year (the late ’90s, possibly), but I saw By Divine Right once at the old State. Leslie Feist was with them then. She was born in Amherst, N.S. and grew up in Calgary, but has family ties in Regina, and after the gig I remember her handing out cookies that her grandmother had baked.

Anyway, tonight the latest incarnation of the band, which includes Contreras, Geordie Dynes and Alysha Haugen, is in town to play at show at O’Hanlon’s Pub. Things should get going around 10:30 p.m. To close, here’s video of the band performing the song “More Thorns” off their 2013 album Organized Accidents:

  1. I think they lived with her Grandma in Regina after leaving Amherst when she was really young, still, I’m really hoping the host that night has the gall to introduce her as “Our Hometown Girl, Leslie Feist!” That would be really awesome.
