New on Regina’s cultural landscape, the Regina Latin Festival is not — I repeat, not — related in any way shape or form to the ancient Roman language of Latin.
Good thing too, because a bunch of people sitting around exchanging bon mots like those below would’t make for a very exciting festival.

This festival, in contast, has all sorts of fun things to see, hear and do. If, like Fulvia, hot music and dancing is your thing, there’s live bands and DJs. There’s also arts and crafts, food, a beer tent and plenty of activities for the kids. It’s organized by Regina’s Latin community which includes people with ties to countries like Chile, Brazil, Nicaragua and Cuba in Central and South America, and the Caribbean.
Regina Latin Festival runs today from noon-10 p.m. and tomorrow from noon-8 p.m. in Wascana Park. A weekend pass costs $7, a day pass $5, while kids under 12 are admitted free. For more info call 525-2846 or visit www.reginalatinfestival.com
Also on today at 2 p.m. at the Dunlop Art Gallery’s Sherwood Village Branch is an opening reception and talk by Regina artist Dennis J. Evans for his new show In Searching For Regina Skies. I’ll have more on this in a future post, but it’s an exhibition of photographs by Evans taken during visits to locales both familiar (Canada and the U.S.) and exotic (Mongolia, India and Tibet).
