Recently somebody sent me an e-mail about Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Chief Guy Lonechild’s recent sit-down interview by Charles Hamilton that appeared in both prairie dog and Planet S magazines. It would have been unthinkable, the e-mail read, a couple of years ago for any of the chiefs on the FSIN executives to return our phone calls, and prairie dog was banned from campus by orders of Al Ducharme and Charlie Pratt.
It may be that Chief Lonechild is by design starting a strategy that’s a poke in the eye to the FSIN old guard — guys such as Morley Watson, whose actions drove First Nations University nearly to closure (prairie dog).
A dangerous game, since many of them will be anxious to see Lonechild fail — even though if Lonechild does fail he could take much of the FSIN’s credibility with it.
